A Farm Vacation Bed and Breakfast
Where city people go country.
"A working  farm and ranch raising buffalo, and cattle; growing wheat, corn and soybeans."
Our buffalo herd presented us with a special gift in
the spring of 2004.  As we watched the new buffalo
calves being born and growing, we noticed that one
calf was different.

Baby buffalo calves are born a reddish brown color
and as they grow up and mature, the reddish brown
coat becomes darker and darker until the calves are
the colors of the mother cows and bulls in the rest of
the herd.  But one was different,.  Instead of getting
darker, it was getting lighter and lighter.

We have a white buffalo bull.  It's not an albino, but it
definitely is not dark.  The skin pigment is tan and the
hair is a light tan or caramel color.  In winter time, his
hair turns lighter with the heavier coat.  Whitey knows
he is different and we have treated him differently.
We didn't wean him like the rest of the baby calves
and he stayed with his mother longer.  His mother told
him when it was time to become an independent
young bull.  As a young calf with his mother, the pair
was on the edge of the herd, set apart one might say,
knowing that they were different and special,  As
Whitey grows from a young bull in to a  mature bull,
we watch and wait to see how he will find his place
with the older bulls in the herd.

Whitey about 1 year old.
Whitey a father?  A couple of new buffalo calves are
getting lighter - could it be that Whitey is the father?
We'll just wait and see.
