| Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Spring comes in March, right? We can only hope. It has been up to 30 degrees and some sun shine which makes things seem warmer and at least brighter and the snow is shrinking some. A slow snow melt would be the best thing for the area and have less chance of flooding. Glenn feeds early in the morning when the ground is still frozen. It's one way to beat the mud. Guys are also hauling corn and soybeans to town. Load and speed limits are in place now which limit amount on the semi which means more trips and more time to get the products to market. I've started to think about a garden, flowers to plant and outside projects. Might have to see if I can get the neighbor boy to help me out with some of those things. The thought of a helper this summer will make things easier for me. At least the promise of spring and new life brings some hope after the long winter. |
| Sunday, March 7, 2010 A dreary day outside with rain-freezing rain outside. The past few days with a bit warmer weather has melted snow and now we are starting to see the yard, muddy of course, brown grass, some green grass and things once buried under snow starting to show through, like things left on the garden last fall. And interestingly enough, gravel roads that snow does not cover and are black, are now dusty when driving. Snow, mud and dust, an interesting combination. Cows will be starting to calf soon. Hope all goes well with that. SD talks of flooding along the James River which will make a difference in little towns close to us as in Redfield and Huron. Daylight lingers longer each evening and starts sooner each morning. So good to have more light each day. Something about more light fills me with more energy. Guess I'm like a bear and want to just hibernate in the wintertime. |
