"A working  farm and ranch raising buffalo, and cattle; growing wheat, corn and soybeans."
Tuesday evening, August 24  I've heard said that it has been 5
weeks since we haven't had rain and with the yard now showing a bit of
brown, I would believe that.  It's been hot and hot and humid, and hot.
A cool front came through yesterday with a few sprinkles and it is much
cooler today.  Some of the wet spots have started to dry up.  The
James River is starting to go back into its banks after flooding lots of
areas since spring.

Crops still look pretty green yet.  Deer have been traveling in the late
evenings.  Sweet corn tastes great.  School has started and I'll soon
have my neighbor lady to help me do some fall cleaning.  State Fair
starts next week and then it will be getting ready for pheasant hunting.

I've been doing some sewing on quilts and a project for my sister's
second grade class in KS.  Sure has been good to do something
different.  It has been fun to try to use the bells and whistles on my
sewing machine.
Thursday, Sept. 2  For awhile we thought that August would have to go down
as a month where we didn't get any rain, but it rained a drop short of an inch on
Monday, the 30th.  Had another shower last night and it has cooled off a bit.
Corn is starting to dry down.  Hopefully we will be able to harvest earlier and
finish before December.  The rain was great for the soybeans as pods are filling
and with the rain, should fill nicely instead of aborting pods.

Now it is time to get fall house cleaning done for pheasant hunting and start
planning some menus and bake some goodies for the hunters.  My neighbor
lady has me on her schedule, so things should get done in good measure.  I'll
have to put my sewing away for awhile, but hope to take it up again after the first
of the year.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend.
